As 2013 comes to a close I would like to express my appreciation to all those involved in supporting Computers in Homes in the Nelson/Marlborough region.  We have a successful team of Cathy-Ann and Carmen based at the host school, Bohally Intermediate, Blenheim who saw the completion of a programme comprising of families from various schools from their district and who are continuing to give support to their families.  Thank you for all your hard work and the effort you have put in.  And also congratulations to all those participating families who have gained so much learning, have grown in their ability to use their computers and are now able to support their children's education in new ways.

Within the Nelson area we already have a team based at Victory School who have been sharing their skills and knowledge and supporting others in their learning.  Thanks Tania and Dianne, and Tim for your Tech support.

We have some new teams forming in the Nelson region as well with two new host schools starting Computers in Homes programmes when the new school year begins in February 2014.  There is still time for any interested families to contact either of the host schools - Auckland Point School in Nelson or Parklands School in Motueka.  They are generously offering to host families from other schools who are eligible. Nelson Central, Victory and Lower Moutere Schools have already taken up this generous offer.  So if you have school age children, don't have a computer or the internet at home, and would like some training and the opportunity to take home a reconditioned computer, please contact myself or these schools and take advantage of this amazing programme.  The tutors and techs are gearing up for the New Year and the organisers Kate and Sonya have been doing an amazing job.

Well wishes to you all - for a safe and happy festive season and see you in the New Year!!

Cheers Denise

23 November 2013

I have just returned from family information evenings held at both Parklands School and Auckland Point School.  It was lovely to meet families and introduce them to their tutors ready for a start to the programme near the beginning of the school term, around the middle of February.

Auckland Point School, Nelson
Parklands School, Motueka

Thanks to Kate Erikson - eLearning Lead Teacher for Parklands School, and Sonya Hockley Principal of Auckland Point School, for their enthusiasm and commitment to host the programme within their schools and to organise their families to attend the information evening and learn of the benefits of the programme for them and their families.

Nelson Central School

Auckland Point School will also be hosting families from Nelson Central School.  Auckland Point School has also offered to host families from any other schools who are without a computer and an internet connection so they can also benefit from the programme.  Please contact Sonya Hockley at Auckland Point School or myself on the contact listed on this page.  We look forward to receiving any enquiries.

Cheers Denise

Welcome to our new Nelson / Marlborough blog site!!

Di Daniels, our National Coordinator, has been working closely with the Nelson / Marlborough region since 2011.  Now she is in the process of passing the reins to me and I have had the privilege of visiting Blenheim and the wonderful team at Bohally Intermediate.  Thanks to Cathy-Ann for her great tutoring and continued support and Carmen for all the tech support which is continuing through to 12 month Rejuvenation.  Also thanks to Andrew Read, Principal of Bohally Intermediate for supporting this process and hosting families from other schools in the area!

When visiting Nelson I was able to attend a training session at Victory School and meet some of the team there.  It was great to see the class in action - lots of learning going on!!

We have two new schools who are going to be hosting the Computers in Homes programme in the near future.  Welcome to Parkland School, Motueka and Auckland Point School, Nelson.  It has been wonderful to meet you and exciting to begin the process of introducing this training into your schools.

Both of these schools are now at the stage of invited families to information evenings to be held mid November, and from there enrolments will be completed and training dates set.  Looking forward to it!

Cheers Denise
